At the Cables (8.0 miles travelled)
We asked a fellow hiker to take this photo of us. He had come all the way from Japan to do Half Dome.
The cable climb is 70 to 75 degrees steep. It requires mostly hand grip and upper body strength to pull your body weight up.
Zooom IN to see the actual cables.

Oh my God. Those cables look very intimidating. I'm planning to go up there in October. Any advice?
The cables, in a way, look much worse than they really are (like everything else in life). Bring good pair of gloves, good traction shoes, and a great attitude, and you'll do just fine.
national park service historical archives say death sometimes "climb" over 2 dozen, and many times roughly a dozen deaths a year. dig into the archives and read for yourself.
